PARKS: Improving Foss Park

Question/Comment: What can be done to improve Foss Park, including completing tree and light post maintenance?

City Update 12/3/09: As this park is under State jurisdiction, Representative Carl Sciortino's office has informed the City that he plans to send a letter to Governor Patrick regarding Foss Park on behalf of his constituents.  This letter will include a request that the park be resurfaced, potentially with Astroturf.

As tree and light post maintenance in Foss Park and on the nearby island are State responsibilities, the city also has no recourse surrounding those issues specifically.  Unfortunately, the island has no electricity, which presents additional challenges to the State in enhancing lighting along this stretch of Broadway.

City Update 5/19/08: Foss Park is managed by the State. The City would like to assume management responsibilities of Foss Park and of Veterans Memorial Ice Rink on Somerville Avenue. However, the City requires that the State first make necessary capital investments into the facilities.
