City update 3/18/10: You can help
City Update 2/23/10: Mayor Curtatone recently announced that the City of Somerville will seek to be included as one of the selected trial areas for an ultra-high speed broadband network by Google. The network will be offered at a competitive price in selected trial locations nationwide. The City believes that Somerville's location and demographics make us an ideal candidate for a trial of this nature. With Google's plan, a fiber-optic broadband network would provide an attractive choice for the residents of Somerville. The City will be submitting a Request for Information (RFI) to Google, which they are using to identify interested communities. Google will build and test ultra-high speed broadband networks, which will offer Internet speeds of 1 gigabit per second and should ultimately increase competition, and lower prices.
