INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS: Pot holes on Somerville Ave in Union Square

Question/Comment: A resident would like to know if the City can fix the pavement on westbound Somerville Avenue in Union Square, near the Independent?   In his/her experience this section of the street is nearly unridable for bicycles because of all the potholes and ruts.

City Update 5/13/10: A section of Union Square near the main square and in front of the SCAT building  is scheduled to be resurfaced in the summer/fall of 2010.  Note that final work is dependent on contractor bid prices being consistent with city budget estimates.

City Update 2/23/10: Repairing this portion of Somerville Avenue is a priority for the City.  Unfortunately, funding is not currently available for the project.  The City's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) is currently working with the Mayor's Office on a strategy to fund street resurfacing in this area.  This stretch of road was not included in the overall renovation of Somerville Avenue because the majority of that project is being funded and undertaken by Mass Highway, and this portion of Somerville Avenue is not under State jurisdiction.
