PARKS: Blessing of the Bay Boat House

Question/Comment: At a community meeting, several residents expressed interest in improvements being made to the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse, including plans for a walking path between Foss Park and the boathouse.  A resident also made a suggestion that the City allow residents to purchase tiles along the walking path, donations from which would help to fund the project.

City Update 2/9/10:  At the meeting the City's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) discussed plans to make improvements using funding from a state grant.  This will include increasing the accessibility of the boathouse and constructing a walking path from Foss Park, which will be marked with decorative tiles shaped like herring.  The Mayor also noted that this City is in the process of trying to get full jurisdiction over the boathouse and Foss Park, which are now maintained by the State Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), to ensure that these recreational areas are well-maintained for Somerville residents' use.
