PROGRAMS: City mailing lists

Question/Comment: Why did the City choose to transition from Google groups to Mailman for its ResiStat e-mail lists?  Can list members send messages on these lists?

City Update 2/11/10:  The ResiStat mailing list was transitioned to  Mailman mailing lists for a few reasons.  Many residents had trouble registering for Google groups, were not receiving e-mails, and were confused about why.  Google groups was also a difficult tool to use for suck a large mailing list, as they have no customer service, and messages were often blocked as spam.  Members can no longer send messages to ResiStat's mailing lists because we received numerous complaints from residents about the volume and relevance of e-mails coming for other list members.
