Harris Park Land Swap

View Harris Street Park in a larger map

Q: A resident asked, What is the status of the Harris Playground on Cross Street? I see from the Somerville Open Space and Recreation Plan 2008-13 that this playground was considered to be in poor condition in 2008 and is scheduled for "Land Swap and New Construction". Is the playground to be decommissioned for another use? Or rebuilt?

A: The City recognizes the critical need for public park improvements in the Cross Street East neighborhood. The City is presently trying to see if the park can be relocated away from I-93 and closer to Broadway via a land swap. If a swap is possible, the neighborhood will be informed. Neighborhood involvement will be sought in the design of any new park, as well as in any rezoning or special permit for the property along I-93.
