Somerville to Build New Ice Rink

More ice time is on the way (perhaps for future Stanley Cup winners?). On Thursday, June 23, the Board of Aldermen approved Mayor Curtatone's plan to build a second ice rink next to the existing Veteran's Memorial Ice Rink at Conway Park. The additional rink will meet increased league demand (including by Somerville's first ever all-girl hockey league), offer more ice time for figure skating training, and provide new year-round recreational opportunities for residents.

Completion of the 15,000 square foot rink is expected by mid December. The $2.69M project will be funded entirely by fees for new billboards paid by Clear Channel company and that are designated for capital projects in the city.

Preparation and site testing is already under way. The new rink will occupy the area to the right of the current rink where the current outdoor street hockey rink is located.
