Public Invited to Discussion on Lechmere Green Line Station Design

The new Lechmere MBTA station will be the first station to be built as part of the Green Line Extension, and resident feedback on its design is being sought at an upcoming public meeting on Dec. 14.

Construction of the Lechmere station is slated to begin the summer of 2013. The station will be moved from its current location on the south side of Monsignor O'Brien Highway to a lot just opposite on the north side of the highway--and this opens up many design issues. Next Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the public Lechmere Station Design Meeting, MassDot Green Line Extension project planners will listen to citizen input on both the design of the new station as well as the surrounding site.
Some community concerns that will be addressed include:
  • Pedestrian crossing on Monsignor O'Brien Highway
  • Access from Water Street
  • Adequate bicycle parking
  • Making sure the station is designed to face the neighborhood
The meeting will be held Wed., Dec. 14, 6-8pm, at the Kennedy/Longfellow School, 158 Spring St., CAMBRIDGE.

Check out the initial sketches and site maps in the photos below. More information on the meeting details can be found HERE and slides showing station sketches and maps are HERE (the Lechmere section starts at slide number 20).
