Win a Spot on the Mayor’s Personal Fitness Challenge Team

Forget personal trainers. Nothing will boost your fitness routine like having your Mayor personally invite you (and your eight teammates) to zumba, fitness boot camp, or an after-work power walk. That's why ResiStat is holding three spots on Mayor Curtatone’s personal Fitness Challenge team for the city’s most fearless fitness seekers. Why fearless? Because the Mayor always aims to win this one.

But while Mayor Joe’s team is always the most ambitious, it’s also the most fun. And, of course, everyone may participate according to their own ability. So, if you think you have the right stuff to help the Mayor’s team win or that getting this boost will really help you get in shape, you don't want to miss this opportunity. To apply, here’s what to do:

Send a short note (under 100 words) by the deadline on Monday, March 26, at 3 p.m., explaining why you should be on the team. The three residents who make the best case will each win a spot on the ten-person team. But be forewarned: you WILL be fitter by the end of this.

RULES: Entrants must be at least 18 years of age and must reside in Somerville. However, a special allowance might be made for a bored resident of Cambridge who makes a compelling case for a cross-border exception. Entries may either be emailed to ResiStat@gmail.com or posted to www.facebook.com/SomervilleCity or posted in the comments here by the DEADLINE, 3 p.m. Monday, March 26. Note must be under 100 words.

Fitness Challenge Details: The annual Mayor's Fitness Challenge kicks off March 31 and the entire city is invited to participate. Form your own team of ten, or call 311 to be matched up with others seeking a team, or pledge to take part solo. Then come to the kick-off on Sat. Mar. 31 (11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Somerville High, 81 Highland Ave.) for loads of fitness demos and fun. Teams earn points and rewards (including discounts at local businesses) by getting active and eating healthy for seven weeks and improving their body mass index (BMI). Free fitness activities will be offered throughout to all residents. Watch for info on the City website or follow www.facebook.com/MayorsFitnessChallenge for updates.

DEADLINE to Apply: Monday, March 26, 3 p.m.

  1. Make a fitness boot camp a part of your corporate culture and you will build strong teams, increase productivity and change the lives of your employees. Successfully organize and conduct your own fitness boot camp program. Implementation of a corporate fitness boot camp program costs almost nothing and results in increased productivity, less sick days, cohesive teams and lower health care costs.
